Fort Frances Score 5 Unanswered for Upset Win Over Sioux Lookout

Fort Frances, ON -The Fort Frances Lakers pulled off a big upset victory beating the Sioux Lookout Bombers 8-4 on Thursday Night.

It was an entertaining back and forth 1st period with both teams netting 3 goals. Lucas Trichmarchi started the scoring putting the Bombers on the board with a goal assisted by Ty Bahm and Tegan Neuman. Fort Frances would answer with 2 tallies about 2 minutes apart. The same 3 players picked up the points on both of the goals with Brady Wicklund and Ryker Watt each having a goal and an assist. Brady Krentz picked up assists on both goals. The Bombers would equalize and surge back into the lead with goals less than a minute apart, scored by Nathan Dann and Blake Burke. Finally, Ryker Watt would put the puck in the net a 2nd time to send the game to the 1st intermission tied at 3.

Mitchel Daines would score 8 minutes into the second giving the Bombers their final goal and lead of the night. The Lakers would score 3 straight goals in the 2nd to take a 6-4 lead. The goals were scored by Kevin Bond, Brady Krentz, and Brady Wicklund. Ryker Watt picked up assists on all 3 goals raising his point total on the night to 6 but he wasn’t done. 

Watt finished his hat trick scoring the first goal of the 3rd period and making it a 7-4 game. The last goal of the game would be scored by Connor O’Brien on the powerplay assisted by Ryker Watt and Brady Wicklund. 

It was a great game for Brenden Stroble in net as he stopped 51 of 55 to pick up the win. Ethan Penner stopped 25 shots in a losing effort. Ryker Watt picked up the 1st star of the game with 3 goals and 5 assists, Stroble was the 2nd star of the game, and Wicklund was 3rd star with 2 goals and 2 assists.
