Bombers Sweep Lumberjacks With 4-1 Win

By Tanner Schafer

Spooner, WI – The Sioux Lookout Bombers secured a weekend sweep with a very comfortable 4-1 victory over the Wisconsin Lumberjacks.

Things looked good for the Lumberjacks early as they dominated the beginning of the 1st period recording the 1st 5 shots on goal. Disaster struck for Wisconsin when Sioux Lookout scored on the 1st shot of the game. Ty Bahm scored the marker assisted by Tegan Neuman and Lucas Trimarchi. Just over 3 minutes later the Bombers would go onto the power play and score with Bahm again finding the back of the net. Nolan Palmer had the 1st assist while Neuman again found his way onto the scoresheet with his 2nd. The Lumberjacks showed that the wind had been taken out of their sails and the Bombers punished with another goal just 13 seconds later. The goal was scored by Blake Burke assisted by Connor Burke and Owen Riffel giving the Bombers a 3-0 lead heading into the 2nd.

Jake Manners had a 2nd great game in a row for the Bombers as the SIJHL’s Goalie of the Month for January made it tough on the Lumberjacks. Despite Wisconsin’s best efforts they couldn’t put a puck past Manners in the first 40 minutes. Kyler Lowden was able to stop some prime scoring opportunities for the Bombers in the 2nd and kept the game at a 3-0 score line.

Grame Patrick would finish off the scoring for Sioux Lookout 3 minutes into the 3rd on a goal assisted by Owen Riffel. The Lumberjacks would find their lone goal near the halfway mark of the 3rd with Zach Johnson beating Manners from the slot to make it 4-1. Johnson was assisted by Salvatore Poggiali and Dylan Jouppi. The Lumberjacks turned up the pressure the rest of the way but the Bombers answered well and were rewarded with a 4-1 victory.

A big problem for the Lumberjacks all weekend was the power play as they went 0 for 6 over the 2 games. The Bombers were 1 for 3 on the night when playing up a man. Manners had 33 saves and picked up the win allowing only 2 goals in 6 periods of action. Lowden had 26 saves in a losing effort. Ty Bahm had a big presence scoring 2 goals and was awarded 1st star of the game. Jake Manners performance was good enough for 2nd star of the game. Finally the Lumberjacks lone goal scorer Zach Johnson was 3rd star of the game.
