GAME RECAP - FRIDAY

Early in the game, Matthew Ofukany made a brilliant stop (CLIP BELOW) on a clear breakaway, robbing Graeme Tenhunen, fresh out of the penalty box at 5:20. The Bombers were the first to strike. Michael Casey ripped a point shot past Miners’ goaltender Patrick Forsythe on the power play just under three minutes to play in the period. The bomber lead 1-0 after 20 minutes.

The Miners countered quickly in the second period. Less than a minute into the middle frame, Jakob Boekelder tallied his fourth of the season, also on the power play. Ty Love sank a beautiful one-timer (CLIP BELOW) at 5:42 of the second to restore the Bombers' lead. From there it was all Bombers on the scoresheet. Sage Roberts scored on the power play late in the second period.

The third period saw goals added by Owen Cotter, Cooper Labelle and Gursimar Mann. With one second to go in the game, captain Kaden Veller potted another (CLIP BELOW) to make the final score 7-1 for the Bombers.

Matthew Ofukany picked up his 12 win of the season, stopping 22 of 23 shots. The game’s three stars were all from the Sioux Lookout squad with Veller, Mann and Ofukany - first, second and third stars, respectively.

GAME RECAP - SATURDAY

The Miners’ new-acquired Adam Milke was first on the scoresheet with an even-strength goal just one second after the Bombers killed off the first penalty of the night. Less than two minutes later Dylan Orr, who had been moved up to forward for this game, was all alone on the doorstep (CLIP BELOW) to tie it up. At 10:04, Sage Roberts walked out from the corner after a put a shot right through Gabriel Donohue to make it 2-1.

Five minutes into the second period, Red Lake found themselves down two players on a 5 on 3 and the Bombers capitalized quickly with Michael Casey’s second goal of the weekend. Sioux Lookout extended the lead to 4-1 when Owen Cotter pounced on a rebound (CLIP BELOW) off an Olan Norton net drive (although the official scoresheet has the goal miscredited). A Miners’ powerplay goal by Finn McNabb cut the lead in half at 13:36. Jason Haraphongse scored his first in a Bombers uniform popping the biscuit over a sprawling Donohue (CLIP BELOW) on yet another rebound. The Miners tried to keep pace with another goal late in the period by Martin Kovalenko but after that it was all Bombers..

The Bombers kept up the pressure in the third period. Shyler McGahey, who buzzing for a whole shift, was finally rewarded with a tap in off another rebound at 14:40. With less than two minutes in left regulation, an empty net goal by Michael Casey (second of the night and third of the weekend) sealed the deal.

It was another game with a steady, balance offensive attack that saw seven goals by six different Bombers. Nick Webb picked up his third win in six outings in the net for the Bombers, stopping 18 of 21. Gabriel Donohue, who was the busier of the two netminders face 47 shots. The dominant performance of the Bombers earned all three stars honours again, going to Casey, Norton and Cotter.
