GAME RECAP - SATURDAY

Logan Maroni got his second start for the Sioux Lookout Bombers and Connor Doyle got the nod for the Lumberjacks. Bombers put the pressure on the Lumberjacks early in the game. They drew two back-to-back penalties but were unable to convert on either advantage. At 15:05, Jack Hanna scored for Ironwood on an odd man rush off a rebound that Logan Maroni could not contain. It was the first time this season that the Lumberjacks have scored first against the Bombers. Less than two minutes later, Hanna struck again coming in off the half wall and beating Maroni with a laser shot on the short side. With 54 seconds left in the first period Owen Debrody knifed a perfect feed from Brendan Klotz into the back of the net to give the Lumberjacks a 3-0 lead.

Coach Johnstone made a goalie adjustment to start the second period and sent in  Nick Webb. Five minutes into the middle frame Owen Cotter on a two-on-one opted to shoot and his well placed shot beat Doyle (CLIP BELOW) on the glove side to get the Bombers back in the game. Kaden Veller got the Bombers within one with a goal at 13:09. Again late in the period, Ironwood capitalized on a defensive breakdown. Andrew Brubakken got his first goal in his first game as a Lumberjacks to restore the two-goal lead.

Bombers started the third on the power play and Brodie Wood potted a powerplay marker. Unfortunately, the broadcast feed kicked out just as the Bombers scored but it was probably a beauty. Draeden Bear put one through the wickets on Doyle to tie the game at 3:19. The teams traded chances for most of the third period but both goaltenders had settled in. With just five minutes remaining, Sage Roberts fought his way to the front of the net and slide the biscuit five-hole (CLIP BELOW) for the Bombers’ first lead of the game. However, with 2:11 left in the period, Brubakken scored his second of the night on the powerplay to tie the game again.

It would take extra time to settle the score in this game. The Bombers started the extra frame on the man advantage and came close a couple times. Webb made an amazing stop (CLIP BELOW) on a breakaway by Tyki Babcock to keep the game alive. The game was still not over after five minutes of overtime. The shootout took four rounds with Jack Carruthers and Félix St-Onge scoring for the Lumberjack and Owen Cotter getting the loan goal for the Bombers.

Owen Cotter now has 20 goals and 20 assists on the season and leads the Bombers in both categories. Final shots on goal were 45-33 for Ironwood. The three stars of the game were Andrew Brubakken, Jack Hanna and Félix St-Onge, all from the Lumberjacks.
