GAME RECAP
The first period looked like déjà vu all over again as Kam River was first to score again, similar to last night’s game. The goal was a highlight reel beauty from DeAntwan Kupsch Hamilton. He pulled off a sweet spin-o-rama move to evade the Bombers’ defence and followed it up with a well placed shot, top shelf over the blocker of Matthew Ofukany. Despite having a slight edge in shots on goal, the Bombers trailed the Walleye 1-0 headed to the intermission.
Matthew Ofukany and Walleye netminder Brady Low were both starting for the second night on the weekend and were locked in at this point. There was no scoring through the middle frame but the rough and tumble affair was a treat for the 350 hockey fans who packed the stands.
At 8:20 of the third period Cedrik Robidoux brought those fans to their feet. He took an outlet feed from Owen Cotter behind the Walleye net and buried it behind Low. The Bombers continued to outshoot the Fish but couldn’t find the go-ahead gaol. It looked like the game would need overtime. With 34 second left in regulation, Max Wright stunned the Bombers and silenced the Hangar. His late goal secured the two points for the Walleye.
The game’s first, second and third stars were Wright, Low and Ofukany, the game-winning goal scorer and the goaltenders who put on a clinic in the low-scoring, tight game. Even with the physicality, the players only accumulated four minor penalties, two for each team, through 60 minutes.
