GAME RECAP
The Kam River Fighting Walleye made their final expedition of the regular season to Sioux Lookout for a little Tuesday night action at the Hangar. Both teams were looking to ramp up the intensity as the post season is just around the corner.
The first 15 minutes of the game flew by fast with few whistles. They seemed to flow from zone to zone but neither team really had any grade-A scoring chances. Evan Lachimea finally broke the seal with just under four minutes remaining in the first period. He took a pass from Kaden Goodwin and with plenty of time and space in the high slot was able to beat Matthew Ofukany clean on the glove side. Even though they carried much of the play, the Bombers were technically outshot 12-4 in the period.
Sage Roberts got his 14th of the season on the power play, halfway through the second period. Great puck movement by the Bombers and a cross-ice feed from Kaden Veller, Roberts Beat Kam River’s Brady Low to even up the score at one each. The Walleye did not take long to respond. Adam Kukko scored on a 3 on 1 rush at 11:20 to restore the Walleye lead.
The third period was physical but disciplined. Each team threw their share of big hits but neither could find the back of the net again.
Final shots on goal were 32 for the visiting Walleye and 29 for the Bombers. The game’s three stars were Evan Lachimea, Sage Robert and Matthew Ofukany.
