Bombers prevail over the Lakers

Sioux Lookout, ON – The Sioux Lookout Bombers kicked off the second half of the season hosting the Fort Frances Lakers for the first time in their inaugural season. After the Christmas break both teams were looking to shake off the rust and get back into game mode.
The Lakers came out ready to play and Kevin Bond would score just 27 seconds into the game. Not to be out-done, Connor Burke scored for the Bombers at the one minute mark to even things up. The home team would add three more by the end of the first period with goals by Blake Burke, Nathan Dann and Nolan Palmer.
The Lakers would score an even faster goal at 18 seconds into the second period. The Bombers countered with three more goal in the middle frame. Blake Burke scored his second of the game, Owen Riffel got his 11th of the season and Tyler Tykolis-Casey got the monkey off his back with his first goal in 18 games. Ian Snooks scored for Fort Frances on the power play and the second period came to a close with the Bombers up 7-3.
It was déjà vu all over again in the third period as the Laker would score just 7 second in this time. However, Mitchell Daines scored for the Bombers to regain the four goal lead. Lakers’ forward Jack Wood ripped a quick shot past Bombers goaltender Jake Mannersat 7:28 but Tegan Neuman would put the final nail in the coffin and give the Bombers their 9th goal of the game at 18:46 of the third period.
Laker’s netminder, Brenden Stroble stopped 33 of 42 shots faced but Jake Manners was the busier of the two goalies stopping 49 of  54 shots against and earning the win.
Both teams are back at the Hanger Saturday night for game two of the weekend series.
