Bombers Overtake Ice Dogs

By James Brohm

Sioux Lookout, ON – In a highly contested game that saw over 100 penalty minutes assessed, the Bomber came out victorious. They improve to a record of 8-4 alongside the Dryden GM Ice Dogs in a 2-way tie for second place in the SIJHL. A crowd of 469 packed the Hangar to witness the rebirth of one of northwestern Ontario’s biggest hockey rivalries.

Scoring for the first two periods was evenly matched with each team scoring once in each frame. Sioux lookout was first on the board with a power play marker from captain, Lucas Trimarchi at 10:24 of the first. Ben Hackl responded for the Ice Dogs with a power play goal of his own just over five minutes later.

The Bombers retook the lead with a goal from Phil Parker at 11:25 of the second. It was another power play goal. Again, Dryden evened things up on the power play, this time with a goal from James Hooton at 14:41.

The teams remained knotted at two until Sioux Lookout’s Blake Burke scored an unassisted power play goal at 12:46 of the third. Nolan Palmer would pot the game’s only even strength goal shortly after to make the score 4-2 of the Sioux Lookout Bombers.

That score would stand for the rest of the game and the Bombers skated away with the victory and ended the Ice Dogs’ 8-game winning streak. The two teams will face off again on November 12 at the Hangar, in Sioux Lookout.
